A Big Hairy Audacious Goal- BHAG
The title of this blog was a phrase used by”my favorite business writer - Jim Collins in his book “Good to Great”
After the few upgrades in Phuket, let’s call it round 1, my mind was still focused on the regatta and racing. Destiny wants to sail faster than the red boat, VG Offshore!
I was taking part in some harbor races, and also got my first experience of a broach! This is where the boat is overpowered and is pushed by the wind and heels. At the time, there were 4 on the boat. My German friend Arne, Dr Param and Elaine . Was quite a harrowing experience, having been hit by the sudden gust that pushed the whole boat 90 degrees, and Destiny lay on her side but for a few seconds as she quickly uprighted herself.
Preparations were now set for the regatta! Maybe in 2018!
In December 2017, a tragic event in my family set forth a chain reaction of my thoughts on the future.
My sister-in-law at age 42, passed away suddenly while was at sea ( on a cruise with her family). It was a devastating blow to the whole family. i have seen my brother and sis in-law navigate lots of difficulties in their life, and to be taken at their peak showed me that God gives us blessings continuously and then tests us with difficulties all through our lives, again and again. This made me realize the fragility of life! How short our time on earth is. How we should really live our lives, using it to EXPERIENCE Life and not merely be a slave to the ways of the world.
After that event I realised that there is more to experience and do in this world. I was 46 at the time. i knew there was more for me to do before my time to go.
i was also getting this premonition of 2022, or 2202. These numbers were getting more and more obvious in everything I did. At about the time, I actually thought I was going to die in that year. i would be getting to 52 at the time. i started to see omens and things of some serious magnitude about to happen. It was frightening to say the least.
In the month that followed, I was told by a friend of an interesting movie, titled The Bucket List. It had Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, both super actors, and I about making a list of things to do before one is about to die. It just resonated well with me.
I was at this point, started to think that perhaps its time for me make my own lists.
