Seychelles

We arrived in Mahé, Seychelles, on June 1, 2023. The entry port was Victoria. Both Libor and I were aboard the Destiny. The sail from the Maldives was quite calm, with winds predominantly coming from 120 to 130 degrees on the starboard side, similar to the winds we experienced during the first part of our journey.

Seychelles is an interesting island historically, as it is where a Sultan from the Malaysian royal family was exiled for 17 years. The Sultan hailed from the state of Perak, where I was born and lived until I moved to Selangor in 2011.

We entered Eden Marina after clearing customs in Seychelles, where we had to complete some initial formalities while at anchor. I want to address some misconceptions about the officials in Seychelles that I've seen online. During our check-in and check-out processes, we encountered friendly people. Although there are some costs associated with entering, they are quite affordable. I personally found the staff at both Eden Marina and the Yacht Club to be very welcoming. The Yacht Club is managed by a lady named Mariam, who has been there for a long time and is extremely helpful.

Sailing between the islands requires permits from the local government, so we decided to leave the boat in the marina and explore the islands using other means. We took a ferry to visit the different islands. It's worth noting that internet access is relatively expensive compared to most countries, including Malaysia. However, with Starlink available now, this shouldn't be a significant issue anymore.

Overall, Seychelles was a great stop before my longer trip towards Africa, which brings many uncertainties, including traveling further south around the Cape of Good Hope.

We left Seychelles on June 13, 2023, and welcomed Libor's friend Henry to join us in Africa.
